Thanks to the glamorization of the New York prison break that the media has constantly compared to the film “Shawshank Redepmtion,” escaped convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat have not only become two of the nation’s most wanted men, but they’re also two of the most recognizable fugitives in America. Something from Richard Matt’s appearance has recently gotten attention, and not just from the media, but also from the United States Military.
As pictures of Matt’s tattoos were released to the public, they showed that his largest tattoo is of the eagle, globe and achor emblem that the United States Marine Corps adopted in 1955. The tattoo initially raised questions about whether or not the man who killed and dismembered his former boss is a military veteran. Those questions have now been answered.
Yvonne Carlock, a spokeswoman for Manpower and Reserves department of the Marines told Marine Corps Times that the U.S.M.C. has no record of Richard Matt serving.
As Gawker states, you can now add stolen valor to the multiple counts of kidnapping and murder on this guy’s rap sheet.
