Everyone has gotten a chuckle when an old timer whips out his Sailor Jerry tattoo on his forearm and makes her “dance,” but what if that tattoo could actually come to life in full animation? Sounds impossible, right? Obviously you’ve never heard of the Portuguese artist duo Oskar + Gaspar. Using a technique known as video mapping the duo are able to project images onto a subject’s tattoos to create the illusion of the ink coming to life.
From mesmerizing mandalas to snakes crawling out of tribal work, each person’s tattoos are given a moment to shine and become something incredible in this video. One can only imagine how disorienting it must have been to watch your own tattoos start to glow briefly before they sprung into full animation. Hopefully Oskar + Gaspar are just the first people to create a project like this because we could watch this art all day long.
