It seems the word “tattoo” is the go-to lyric used by female pop stars to express their undying love for a mate. It has become the ultimate metaphor used to describe the pain caused by a broken heart. Also, the word is often used to explain why a male is a “bad boy” (slide 10), which is a little unsettling to us here at Inked. Even Jay Z rapped about ink in Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker” (slide two). Chances are these artists share the same ghostwriter. Either that or tattoos are part of the overused formula to produce pop hits.
We’ve rounded up eleven songs that use the word “tattoo”—and that is just scratching the surface. Ironically enough, while these artists sing variations of “tattoo my heart,” most are not tattooed or have only tiny tattoos.
