Butterfly tattoos ruled the 2000s, but for this decade another winged insect is taking flight in tattoos across social media. The exotic wing patterns and unique antenna of moths have captured the attention of tattoo artists for years, but it wasn’t until sternum tattoos came into fashion that we really saw this subject take off. The iconic butterfly lower back tattoo has been replaced by moth under boob tattoos and artists of all styles are putting their spin on the nocturnal creatures. With over 160,000 species of moth and tattoo styles that range from traditional to dot work, there are infinite ways for an artist to interpret this winged insect. These are just some of the ways that tattoo artists have brought moths to life through skin and ink.
