Will There Ever Be a Tattooed Miss America?

The Miss America pageant is filled with age old traditions, from teased hair to toned bikini bodies. However, over recent years we've seen a number of contestants break these rules and take a stand against oppressive beauty standards. One way that contestants of the Miss America pageant scene have gone against the norm is through tattoos. Although there is a written rule against visible tattoos in the pageant, many contestants including Miss America 2014, have gone around the regulation. The guide for Miss America states that the "Contestant agrees that no tattoos are to be visible. Tattoos are to be covered up with makeup. No pierced tongues or body parts are to be visible except for pierced earrings. National Titleholder also agrees with this rule."
