Kesha has been embroiled in a heated legal battle with former producer Dr. Luke since 2014, but the singer revealed a new tattoo on Instagram last week that hints at a new beginning, one that embraces honesty, vulnerability, self-love, and, most importantly, freedom. For the past three years, Kesha’s career has been at a standstill due to her ongoing fight against Dr. Luke, who she alleges emotionally abused and sexually assaulted her for the better part of a decade, but with this new tattoo, the 30-year-old has finally given herself permission to “live free,” against all odds.
Kesha’s new “live free” fingers tattoo was inked by L.A.-based tattoo artist
Derrick Snodgrass and while the pop star captioned her first Instagram post of the ink simply, “LIVE FREE,” she followed that up a day later with a close-up image of just the “free” part of the freshly-inked tat and a slightly more detailed explanation, writing, “funny how words take on such important meaning once you start living and find yourself looking for the perfect letters to make up the perfect word to make up the perfect feeling…” In the first photo of the tattoo, Kesha is rocking a sweet rainbow mani as a nod to her latest album,
Rainbow.
